Quicklime

Quicklime is produced by heating crushed and sorted limestone in a rotary or shaft kiln. The limestone (CaCO3) is broken down into calcium oxide (CaO), i.e., quicklime, and carbon dioxide (CO2). This reaction, called calcination, requires a temperature of about 1100°C.

Handling and storage of quicklime requires great caution as the material is highly reactive. If the product comes into contact with water, it reacts vigorously and releases heat while being converted to slaked lime.

Nordkalk’s brands for burnt lime are Nordkalk QL and Nordkalk Terra.
